First Food

We had fully planned to wait until 6 months to start solid foods however Emma has recently started watching us closely as we eat and then licking her lips and sucking on her bottom lip.  I felt like she was wanting to eat.  Last night at dinner she was happily playing in her stroller until our food came out and she got fussy.  Now normally I have no problem holding her in my lap while I eat but this burger was pretty messy and I knew it needed 2 hands.  So I looked at the avocado on my plate and knowing that it is supposed to be a great first food I decided to give Emma a taste.  I mashed a little bit up on my fingers and let her try it.  To my surprise she loved it.  I got a big smile and she licked my fingers clean.  She also stayed happy through the rest of the meal.  Guess she was ready for food.  Today we decided to "officially" try some food and made some baby oatmeal for her.  She took the entire ounce.  Don't get me wrong probably at least 1/4 of it ended up on her bib and face but she was smiling the whole time and kept wanting more.  I can't wait to continue to try new things.  Here are a few pictures from today.

Who are we?

I have been resisting writing a blog because I don't want to be "that mom" but this weekend we started Emma on solid food (will have it's own post) and I found I wanted to tell everyone.  That's when I realized I might need a blog to keep up with all the exciting firsts and things that are going on in our lives.  With our families spread out this is the easiest way to share with everyone.

For those who might not know, I am Becca and my husband is Gary.  We are parents to a 5 1/2 month little girl old named Emma (born in April 2012) and a 3 year old goldendoodle named Wembley.  After moving to NC 2 years ago from Boston so Gary could get his MBA at Duke's Fuqua School of Business we have recently relocated again to NYC.  Well technically we are in NYC but we are living in the neighborhood of Forest Hills in Queens.  We have settled into our life here and are meeting new friends in the area.  My sister Sarah is nearby in Brooklyn so we get to see a lot of her too.  Come back regularly to see our weekly adventures (or boring day to day lives).  I will try to update once a week or so but I don't know if it will really happen.
